Library Surprise

Musky scent chokes air.
                                Ancestors wait.

Layers of quietness float in rafters.
                                Ancestors feel.

Lonely aisles listen for staccato footsteps.
                                Ancestors watch.

Telescopic eyes scan titles.
                                Ancestors smile.

Thirst wrestles ravenous appetite.
                                Ancestors drink.

Tongue holds silent words.
                                Ancestors speak.
